Set up ZMorning for the first tracked work session

ZMorning connects two working areas: managers organize work and review results on the web, while employees record time with the desktop app. A reliable setup starts with a project, a clear task, and the right employee access.

What should I do first?

If you manage the account, prepare the project and task before asking an employee to track time. If you are an employee, activate your invited account, install the desktop app, choose the correct employer and task, and then start tracking.

Choose the path that matches your role

Person managing the account

Prepare work on the web dashboard

Use the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning. Confirm your first project, add the people who will track time, create a task group and task, assign the task, and review the employee's tracking preferences before work begins.

Track assigned work in the desktop app

Use the employee view, shown as Employee in ZMorning, to review available work. For daily tracking, finish account activation, sign in to the desktop app, select the correct employer and assigned task, and use Start and Stop to record the work session.

Recommended setup order

Following this order prevents empty task lists and work being recorded in the wrong place.

  1. Finish the account setup

A new manager setup includes a Free subscription and a project named My First Project. You can rename that project or create another one from Projects in the web dashboard.

  2. Add the employee

Open Employees, enter the employee's work and billing details, and send the invitation. A new account remains Pending until it is activated. An existing, verified ZMorning account may appear Active immediately after it is linked.

  3. Create and assign real work

In My Task, create a task group, add a task to the appropriate project, and assign the employee. Desktop task lists only show work assigned to the signed-in employee.

  4. Agree on tracking settings

Before tracking starts, review whether screenshots, keyboard hit counts, and mouse hit counts are enabled for that employee. These controls are managed from Tracker Settings on the web dashboard.

  5. Run a short test session

The employee signs in to the desktop app, chooses the correct employer and task, starts tracking, works briefly, and stops. The manager can then check Today to confirm that the time and any enabled activity data arrived correctly.
