Getting Started
Set Up ZMorning for Your Team
Prepare the first project, employee access, tracking settings, task group, and assigned task, then verify the setup with a short tracked session.
What does the initial setup include?
A complete ZMorning setup has five connected parts: a project, an employee, a task group, an assigned task, and reviewed tracking settings. Set them up in that order so the employee can sign in, find the correct work, and create a useful first time record.
Before you start
These steps must be completed in the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning. Employees can view available project information, but they cannot create, rename, or delete projects.
A new manager setup starts with a project named My First Project.
The Free plan allows up to two projects. The project page shows an upgrade message when the limit is reached.
If ZMorning asks how you want to continue, select the interface option Login as Client.
Set up ZMorning step by step
-
1
Review or create the project
Web app: Projects
Open Projects from the left navigation. Rename My First Project if it already represents the work you are setting up. To keep different bodies of work separate, select New Project and enter a name between 3 and 40 characters.
Each project card summarizes its tasks, tracked hours, task status, and calculated cost. These values become meaningful after employees begin tracking assigned tasks in that project.
-
2
Add the employee
Web app: Employees → Add Employee
Enter the employee's name, email address, designation, hourly rate, currency, billing cycle, and weekly contract hours. ZMorning sends account activation instructions to a new employee. The employee list shows a new account as Pending until it is activated. If the email belongs to an existing, verified ZMorning account, it may appear Active immediately.
-
3
Review tracking settings immediately
Web app: Tracker Settings
Select the employee and review the three individual controls: screenshot tracking, keyboard hit count, and mouse hit count. Newly added employee relationships are initially created with all three controls enabled, so change any setting that does not match your policy before asking the employee to track time.
-
4
Create a task group
Web app: My Task → Add Group
Tasks must belong to a task group. Create a group with a clear workflow name such as To Do, In Progress, or a team-specific phase. You can also choose a group color to make the board easier to scan.
-
5
Create and assign the first task
Web app: My Task → choose a group → Add Task
Give the task a specific title, select the correct project, and add the employee under Members. A description, due date, priority, and attachments are optional, but they can give the employee useful context before tracking begins.
Save the task after assigning the member. ZMorning sends a task-assignment email when someone is newly assigned, and the task becomes available to that employee's desktop task list for the selected employer.
Test the setup before real work begins
A short end-to-end test catches access and assignment problems while they are still easy to correct.
- The employee activates the invited account and installs the desktop app.
- The employee signs in and selects the correct employer under Track For.
- The employee refreshes the task list and selects the assigned task.
- The employee starts tracking, works briefly, and stops tracking.
- The manager opens Today and confirms that the test session appears for the employee.
Fix common setup problems
I cannot create another project
Check the project count. Free accounts can have up to two projects.
The employee is still pending
The invited account has not completed activation. Confirm the email address and ask the employee to use the activation message.
The desktop task list is empty
Confirm that the task is assigned to this employee, the correct employer is selected, and then refresh the desktop task list.
I cannot delete a project
ZMorning always requires at least one project. Create another project before deleting the current last project.
Common questions
What does Track For choose in the desktop app?
Track For chooses the employee's employer. A linked Client account represents that employer; it is not a workspace or project. Projects organize tasks and tracked work inside the employer's account.
Can an employee create or delete projects?
No. The employee view, shown as Employee in ZMorning, can show projects available under the selected employer, but project management is available only in the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning.
Why do I already have a project named My First Project?
ZMorning creates My First Project automatically during the initial manager setup so you can begin without creating a project first. You can rename it.
How many projects can I create on the Free plan?
A Free account can have up to two projects. ZMorning displays an upgrade option when that limit is reached.
What is removed when I delete a project?
Deleting a project removes its tasks and related task assignments, comments, attachments, and task-linked screenshots. ZMorning does not allow the last remaining project to be deleted.
