Manage Tracking Settings

Configure screenshot, keyboard-count, and mouse-count settings for each employee and understand when changes reach the desktop app.

How do I change an employee's tracking settings?

In the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning, open Tracker Settings, select an employee, adjust the screenshot, keyboard-hit-count, and mouse-hit-count switches, then select Save Settings or Update Settings. The supported web controls require an active Pro subscription to save customized settings. Current values are loaded when the employee starts a new desktop tracking session.

Settings belong to one employee under one employer

ZMorning stores these controls on the employer–employee relationship. If one person works for multiple employers, each employer can have a different set of tracking preferences for that person.

One selected employee

A save changes only the employee currently selected on the Tracker Settings page.

One employer relationship

The same employee can have different settings under a different employer.

Future collection

The switches control what a new desktop session collects; they do not rewrite earlier records.

Screenshot TrackingVisual screen capture

Allows the desktop app to capture a screenshot at a randomized time within each ten-minute tracking slot while the timer is running.

  • Can capture visible application and document content.
  • With multiple displays, the employee chooses all monitors or the active monitor when starting.
  • Turning it off prevents new captures; it does not remove earlier screenshots.
Keyboard Hit CountPress count only

Counts keyboard press events by minute while the timer is active.

  • Does not store which keys were pressed.
  • Does not capture typed words, messages, or passwords.
  • A disabled setting produces no keyboard press counts for the new session.
Mouse Hit CountClick count only

Counts mouse-button press events by minute while the timer is active.

  • Does not record cursor movement paths.
  • Does not store pointer coordinates.
  • A disabled setting produces no mouse click counts for the new session.

Change an employee's settings

Pro
  1. 1

    Open Tracker Settings

Web app: Manager view (Client) → Tracker Settings

If the page shows no employees, add the employee first from Employees.

Choose a person from Select Employee. Confirm the selected employee's name before changing anything.

  3. 3

    Review all three switches

Turn Screenshot Tracking, Keyboard Hit Count, and Mouse Hit Count on or off according to your agreed policy.

  4. 4

When saved changes reach the desktop app

The desktop app requests the selected employer's current settings when the employee selects Start.

Web dashboardManager saves

The new values are stored for this employee and employer.

Desktop appEmployee starts a new session

The app requests and loads the current values before tracking begins.

During trackingLoaded settings remain in use

The session follows the values loaded when Start was selected.

Set clear privacy expectations

Tracking controls should match your workplace policy and should never be a surprise to the employee.

  • Explain which of the three controls are enabled and why.
  • Describe who can review the collected information and how long it is needed.
  • Remind employees to stop tracking before opening personal or unrelated material.
  • Review settings when responsibilities, policies, or employer relationships change.
  • Follow the privacy, employment, and monitoring requirements that apply to your organization and location.

Troubleshooting

The switches open an upgrade message

The employer is using Free. Reviewing the current page is available, but saving customized tracker settings requires an active Pro subscription.

The employee is not listed

Confirm the person is still linked to this employer and that you selected the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning. Add the employee from Employees if no relationship exists.

The old behavior continues after saving

The employee may still be in a session that loaded the previous values. Stop tracking and start a new session while connected to the correct employer.

No screenshots appear even though the switch is on

Confirm the employee started a new session after the change, allowed the desktop app to capture the screen, and stayed connected long enough for pending screenshots to synchronize.

Keyboard or mouse values remain zero

Confirm the relevant switch was enabled before the session began. Counts are recorded only while the timer is running and only for the enabled input type.

Earlier screenshots are still visible

Turning screenshot tracking off stops future captures in new sessions; it does not delete existing screenshots. Use the separate screenshot-management controls for previously stored captures.

Frequently asked questions

Who can change an employee's tracking settings?

In the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning, you can select an employee and review the settings. The supported web controls require an active Pro subscription to save customized settings.

What tracking settings are enabled for a newly added employee?

The first time an employer adds an employee, screenshot tracking, keyboard press counting, and mouse click counting start enabled. If a removed employee is added again under the same employer, earlier saved settings can remain. Always review and communicate the current settings before tracking resumes.

When does a saved tracking-setting change take effect?

The desktop app requests the employee's current settings when a new tracking session starts. A session already running keeps the settings it loaded at Start, so stop and start a new session when an immediate change is required.

Does keyboard tracking record what an employee types?

No. The desktop app increments a keyboard press count while tracking is active. It does not store the keys pressed or the text typed.

Does mouse tracking record cursor movement?

No. The desktop app counts mouse-button press events while tracking is active. It does not record the cursor path or pointer coordinates.

Does turning a tracking option off delete earlier data?

No. A setting controls collection for future tracking sessions under that employer. It does not delete screenshots or activity counts that were already recorded.
