Projects & Tasks
Create and Manage Projects
Create, rename, review, and safely remove the projects that connect tasks to tracked hours and calculated cost.
How do I create and manage a project?
In the manager view—shown as Client in ZMorning—open Projects. Select New Project, enter a name containing 3 to 40 characters, and save. Use the pencil button on a project card to rename it. Before deleting a project, review every task and tracked record connected to it because project deletion also removes the project's tasks and their related content.
Understand what a project controls
A project identifies the body of work to which a task belongs. When an employee tracks an assigned task, ZMorning uses the task's selected project to organize project hours and calculated cost.
- Project
- The reporting and cost container selected on each task.
- Task group
- The workflow section where an active task appears in My Task, such as To Do or In Progress.
- Task
- The actual work item. A task has both a selected project and a task group.
- Assigned member
- An employee connected to the task who can receive it in the desktop task list for this employer.
Read a project card correctly
The Projects page shows one summary card for every project under the selected employer. Both manager and the employee view, shown as Employee in ZMorning, can review these cards, but only the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning, shows the create, edit, and delete controls.
Tasks
The current number of completed and incomplete tasks whose selected project is this project.
Total hours
The number of recorded ten-minute time slots linked to tasks in this project, converted to hours. Time tracked without a task does not contribute to a project card.
Total cost
The calculated amount for project-linked time that has a positive applicable employee rate. Historical rate changes are applied according to when the work was recorded.
Project age
The elapsed years, months, and days since the project record was created.
Create a project
A new manager setup already has a project named My First Project. Rename it when it represents your first real body of work. Create another project when its tasks, hours, and cost should be summarized separately.
-
1
Open Projects in the manager view
Web app: Manager view (Client) → Projects
If the New Project button is missing, open Switch context and select Login as Client.
-
2
Select New Project
The Add Project dialog contains one field: Project Name.
-
3
Enter a recognizable name
Enter 3 to 40 characters. Use a name that will still be clear when someone selects the project on a task or compares project summaries later.
-
4
Save the project
Select Save Project. The new card appears on the Projects page and the project becomes available in the task editor.
Rename a project
Renaming keeps the existing project record and its connected tasks. It changes the name shown on project cards and in project selectors; it does not create a new project or move tasks elsewhere.
- Open Projects in the manager view.
- Select the pencil button on the project card.
- Replace the name with a value containing 3 to 40 characters.
- Select Update Workspace and wait for the success message.
Delete a project safely
Project deletion is permanent in the current interface. ZMorning does not provide a project archive or restore action, and it will not allow the final remaining project to be deleted.
Review what still depends on it
- Open My Task and find active or completed tasks using the project.
- Move any task that must be retained to another project.
- Review project hours, calculated cost, attachments, comments, and screenshots you still need.
- Create another project first if this is the only remaining project.
Verify the remaining work
- Confirm the project card and its tasks no longer appear.
- Refresh desktop task lists for employees whose assignments changed.
- Review reports if historical task or project context is important to your records.
-
1
Select the delete button
On the Projects page, select the trash button on the intended project card.
-
2
Read the confirmation
ZMorning warns that all tasks under the project will be removed. Confirm only after checking the project name and dependent work.
-
3
Verify the result
After deletion succeeds, ZMorning refreshes the project cards without reloading the entire page.
Troubleshooting
New Project is missing
You are likely in the employee view. Switch to the manager view, which ZMorning shows as Client.
The project form will not open
A Free account with two existing projects has reached its limit. Rename an existing project, remove one safely, or review the available plans.
Total hours are lower than expected
Only tracked slots linked to tasks whose selected project is this project are counted. Time recorded without a task is not included.
Total cost is zero
Confirm that project-linked time exists and that the employees who recorded it have positive hourly rates for the relevant dates.
The card says Mixed currency
Project work was priced in more than one currency. ZMorning labels the result instead of converting it with an exchange rate.
The last project cannot be deleted
ZMorning requires at least one project. Create a replacement project, move any work that must be retained, and then try again.
Frequently asked questions
Can an employee create or rename a project?
No. The employee view, shown as Employee in ZMorning, can display project cards, but New Project and the edit and delete controls are available only in the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning.
Why do I already have a project named My First Project?
ZMorning creates My First Project during initial manager-account setup. You can rename it and keep its existing tasks, or create a separate project when the work needs its own summary.
How many projects can I create on the Free plan?
A Free account can have up to two projects. When the limit is reached, New Project opens the plan prompt instead of the project form.
Why is time tracked without a task missing from the project total?
Project hours are calculated from recorded ten-minute slots linked to tasks in that project. A session without a selected task has no project relationship, so it does not contribute to a project card.
Does renaming a project affect its tasks or tracked totals?
No. Renaming updates the existing project's name. Its tasks and the work already connected through those tasks remain associated with the same project record.
Can I restore a deleted project?
No restore action is available in the current interface. Move any tasks and preserve any information you still need before confirming deletion.
