Time Tracking
Use the System Tray
Start or stop prepared work, restore a hidden window, and quit the ZMorning desktop app safely from its tray menu.
What can I do from the ZMorning tray icon?
Open the tray menu to use Start Tracking, Stop Tracking, or Quit. Double-click the icon to restore a hidden ZMorning window. Prepare the correct employer and task in the app before using tray Start, and use Stop before Quit.
Find the ZMorning tray icon
The operating system decides where background-app icons are displayed.
Windows
Notification area
Look near the clock. If the icon is not visible, open the hidden-icons overflow.
macOS
Menu bar
Look for the ZMorning status icon among the menu-bar items at the top of the screen.
Linux
Desktop status area
Look in the system status or tray area provided by the desktop environment when tray icons are supported.
Start prepared work from the tray
-
1
Prepare Home first
Sign in, confirm You are working for:, and select the intended task in the desktop app.
-
2
Open the tray menu
Use the operating system's normal action for opening the ZMorning icon menu.
-
3
Select Start Tracking
The app requests the current employer settings and begins using the employer and task already loaded on Home.
-
4
Complete any capture prompt
With multiple displays, restore the window if necessary, choose All monitors or Active monitor only, and confirm the modal's Start button.
-
5
Verify the menu state
Reopen the tray menu. Start Tracking should be disabled and Stop Tracking enabled.
Stop a hidden session from the tray
- Open the ZMorning tray menu.
- Select Stop Tracking.
- Reopen the menu and confirm Stop is disabled and Start is available again.
- Restore the window if you need to change the employer or task before the next session.
Distinguish hiding the window from stopping the timer
Close button
Hides ZMorning
The desktop process remains open in the tray. If tracking was active, it continues.
Double-click tray icon
Shows ZMorning again
A hidden window is restored so you can review the timer, employer, task, or a waiting modal.
Stop Tracking
Ends the session
The window can remain visible or hidden; Stop changes the tracking state.
Quit
Ends the app process
The tray icon and window disappear until ZMorning is opened again.
Quit only after ending the session
Quit closes the desktop process immediately. It is not a substitute for the normal Stop workflow.
- Select Stop Tracking if it is enabled.
- Keep the app open briefly while pending records attempt to synchronize.
- Open the tray menu again and select Quit.
- Confirm the icon disappears when you intend the app to be fully closed.
Troubleshoot tray controls
- The tray icon is missing on Windows
- Open the hidden-icons overflow near the clock. If ZMorning is not there, start the desktop app again.
- The tray icon is missing on Linux
- Confirm that the desktop environment supports application status icons and that ZMorning is still running.
- Start Tracking does nothing
- Restore the window and sign in. Confirm that Home has loaded a valid employer, then start from Home.
- Start Tracking seems to be waiting
- Double-click the icon to restore the window. A multiple-monitor capture prompt may be waiting for confirmation.
- The window closed but Stop Tracking is enabled
- The window is hidden and tracking continues. Select Stop from the tray or restore the window and use the Home button.
- The icon disappeared unexpectedly
- The desktop process may have quit or restarted for an update. Open ZMorning and verify the timer before resuming work.
