Complete and Reopen Tasks

Finish active work, find and review completed tasks, and safely reopen or permanently remove selected tasks when appropriate.

How do I complete or reopen a task?

In My Task, select the green completion control on the task and confirm. The task leaves the active Board and List views and appears under Completed Tasks. To reopen it, select its checkbox in Completed Tasks, choose Mark as Uncompleted, and confirm. The task returns to the workflow group it already belonged to.

Understand what completion changes

Completion is a task status, separate from the task's group. ZMorning changes that status while retaining the task record and its supporting information.

Completion changes

Where active work appears

  • Sets the task's completion status.
  • Removes the task from the active Board and List views.
  • Adds the task to Completed Tasks.
  • Updates its project's completed and in-progress task counts.

Completion preserves

The task and its working context

  • Project and workflow group.
  • Assigned members, title, description, due date, and priority.
  • Attachments and comments.
  • Previously recorded task-linked time and activity.

Complete a task from Board or List view

  1. 1

    Open My Task

Web app: My Task → Board or List

Both views show the same active tasks and provide a green completion control.

  2. 2

    Review the task first

Confirm that the work is finished and that any final details, files, comments, or assignments have been saved.

  3. 3

    Select the completion control

On the task card or list row, select the green check-circle control titled Mark as completed.

  4. 4

    Confirm completion

Confirm the prompt. My Task refreshes and removes the completed task from its active group display.

Find work in Completed Tasks

From My Task, select Completed Tasks. The page lists completed work for the selected employer and provides filters, paging, reopening, and manager-only permanent deletion.

Search by Title
Returns completed tasks whose saved titles match the search text.
Created From
Includes tasks whose original creation date is on or after the selected date.
Created To
Includes tasks whose original creation date is on or before the selected date.
Assigned Employee
Includes completed tasks currently assigned to the selected employee.
Pagination
Displays up to ten matching tasks on each page.
Select All
Selects only the completed tasks visible on the current page, not every matching page.

Review or edit a completed task

Select a completed task's title to open its task editor. You can review its description, members, due date, project, priority, files, and comments, and you can save edits without reopening it.

  • Saving changes from the task editor keeps the task completed.
  • Editing other task details does not return the task to the active Board or List.
  • Changing the project can reclassify existing and future task-linked hours and cost into the newly selected project summary.
  • Adding or removing members changes desktop availability but does not reopen the task.
  • Reopening requires the Mark as Uncompleted action on the Completed Tasks page.

Reopen one or more tasks

  1. 1

    Open Completed Tasks

Use search and filters when necessary to find the completed work.

  2. 2

    Select the tasks

Select one or more row checkboxes. Use Select All only when every task on the current page should be reopened.

  3. 3

    Select Mark as Uncompleted

Review the number of selected tasks in the confirmation prompt, then select Yes, restore them.

  4. 4

    Return to My Task

Select Back to Tasks. Each reopened task appears in the workflow group it retained while completed.

CompletedStored with its group

The task is hidden from active Board and List views.

ReopenMark as Uncompleted

ZMorning changes the completion status without recreating the task.

ActiveReturns to its prior group

The task keeps its project, members, details, files, comments, and recorded work.

Know who can complete, reopen, or delete

Manager view

Complete, reopen, and delete

The manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning, can complete and reopen tasks and can permanently delete selected tasks from Completed Tasks.

Employee view

Complete and reopen without deletion

The employee view, shown as Employee in ZMorning, can complete active tasks and reopen selected completed tasks. Permanent deletion is not available.

Coordinate completion with desktop tracking

Completion updates the web task status. It does not send a command to stop a desktop timer that is already running, so confirm that active work has stopped before marking the task complete.

Running session

Stop before completing

An employee who already started tracking keeps the selected task for that running session until the timer is stopped.

Desktop task list

Completion alone does not remove it

The current desktop task response uses assignment and employer without excluding completed tasks. An assigned completed task may remain selectable.

Troubleshooting

The task disappeared from My Task

This is expected after completion. Open Completed Tasks to review, edit, reopen, or—if permitted—permanently delete it.

Moving to Completed did not complete the task

A group name does not control completion status. Use the green completion control on the active task.

The date filter cannot find recently completed work

The filters use the task's original creation date, not the date it was completed. Adjust the range to include its creation date.

Select All did not affect every matching task

Select All applies only to the ten or fewer tasks displayed on the current page. Repeat the action on other pages if needed.

A reopened task returned to the wrong stage

Reopening preserves the task's previous group. Return to My Task and drag it into the appropriate workflow group.

A completed task remains in the desktop app

The current desktop response includes assigned completed tasks. Stop any active timer, then unassign the task if it should no longer be selectable.

Frequently asked questions

Does completing a task delete any of its information?

No. Completion changes the task's status and display location. The task keeps its project, group, members, details, attachments, comments, and recorded work.

Where does a reopened task appear?

A reopened task returns to the active Board and List views in the workflow group it retained while completed. Move it afterward if it belongs in a different stage.

Can an employee complete and reopen tasks?

Yes. The employee view, shown as Employee in ZMorning, can mark active tasks complete and use Mark as Uncompleted for selected completed tasks. Permanent deletion remains restricted to the manager view, shown as Client in ZMorning.

Can I filter tasks by the date they were completed?

No. ZMorning does not currently store a separate task-completion timestamp. The Completed Tasks date filters use each task's original creation date.

Does completing a task stop an employee's desktop timer?

No. Completion changes web task status but does not remotely stop a tracking session already running in the desktop app. Ask the employee to stop tracking before completing the task.

Why does a completed task still appear in the desktop task list?

The current desktop task response uses assignment and employer without filtering completion status. Remove the employee's assignment when the task should no longer be selectable.
